Summer School in Epidemiology & Global Health

28th June - 16th July 2010

The inaugural IPRI - University of Dundee Summer School on Epidemiology and Global Health provides a three week programme of lectures and workshops from internationally renowned experts. It is aimed at simulating research in the prevention of chronic diseases and debating progress towards achieving health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Who is the summer School for?

The Summer School is aimed at healthcare professionals from an international base and will benefit senior and junior personnel involved in chronic disease registration, physicians, nurses , public health staff, health related professionals, health researchers and post-graduate students with an interest in the epidemiology of chronic diseases and factors affecting global health.

How will the delegates benefit?

Completion of the programme will enable delegates to confidently conduct epidemiological research that impacts on the prevention and control of chronic disease. It will also provide opportunities to explore the complex linkages between globalisation and health. Special emphasis will be placed on improving the research capacity in resource limited countries.

Free delegate places

Free places are available for delegates from low to medium income countries. Accommodation will be provided.

The cost to high income countries is £1,860. Convert to your own currency. Delegates from these countries will be responsible for their own travel costs, accommodation will be provided.

The Programme

The Summer School is organised into two modules. The first module focuses on disease registration. basic epidemiology and biostatistics. The second module is divided into four themes: population health and human geography; reconsruction and capacity building; philosophy and ethics of global health; improving health outcomes.
