Dow Clinical Simulation Suite

Dundee has long been at the forefront of developments in clinical skills education and we have built on this by incorporating health information technology systems into education and training programmes for healthcare professionals.  The Dow Clinical Simulation Suite, which is located in the Clinical Skills Centre, will ensure healthcare professionals are able to make the best use of IT in the safe management and care of patients in different clinical contexts.

The Suite will also provide a working facility to test the various e-health systems used in the patient journey in the NHS.  It 010will provide facilities and resources for the user acceptance of new e-health systems and will build upon the track record of the University of Dundee in the design, development and implementation of web-based healthcare solutions.

There is increasing evidence in the literature of the need to prepare practitioners for working in high reliability organisation like the NHS by providing safe learner centered environments to acquire standards of skills using simulation. The Clinical Skills Centre takes cognisance of the need to identify the most effective and efficient ways to deliver skills education through the implementation of an appropriately supported educational research strategy.

The University of Dundee provides an ideal setting to explore and evaluate new ways of working for organisations as a leader in quality improvement and patient safety. It has made a significant investment in using simulation to prepare practitioners and to identify the best value in relation to resources.
