Ping Dong studied at Dalian University of Technology, China, obtaining a BEng in Offshore Engineering (1982). He then came to Imperial College in 1984 and obtained a PhD in Coastal Engineering (1988). After a couple of short postdoctoral appointments at Imperial College and UCL and further five years as a coastal engineer with Jacob Babtie he took up a Lectureship at Dundee in 1996 and was awarded a Personal Chair in Coastal Engineering in 2007. His main research areas lie in Coastal hydrodynamic and morphological processes and Coastal Engineering.
