Michael Brown graduated from the University of Bradford in 1995 with a first-class Honours degree in Civil & Structural Engineering, and obtained his doctorate from the University of Sheffield in 2004 for work on the rapid load testing (RLT) of piles in fine grained soils (Statnamic). He worked at the University of Sheffield as a research associate, firstly in the Geotechnical Engineering Research Group and then as consortium manager of the SUBR:IM project in the Groundwater Protection and Restoration Group. Prior to this he spent 5 years in industry working for specialist geotechnical contractors and consultants. He is currently editor of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Proceedings: Geotechnical Engineering. He is chairman of the ICE Scottish Geotechnical Group (SGG) and a member of ISSMGE Technical Committee TC212 on Deep Foundations.
