Ian Mackie is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee. He graduated in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and obtained his PhD from the University of Dundee. He was appointed to a Lectureship in Dundee in 1988 after 4 years in industry. His primary areas of research are computational structures technology and engineering software design. The former covers the application of object-oriented methods, numerical methods and neural network techniques. Applications include finite element analysis, dynamic behaviour of structures, cold-formed steel design, masonry arches and novel structural materials.
