Studentships are offered by the Concrete Technology Unit within one of the UK's leading Civil Engineering Divisions, which was awarded a grade 5A in the recent RAE assessment. The Unit is an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists and material scientists and is renowned for its excellence in research and strong links with industry.

The studentships are available to graduates with a good honours degree, or equivalent, in the following subject areas: civil engineering, chemistry, material sciences, geology, mathematics, and physics. The candidate should have a good standard of written and spoken English, good communication skills, be able to work independently and have an aptitude for problem solving. Successful applicants will carry out research in areas relating to;

  • sustainable concrete construction and reuse/recycling of waste materials
  • concrete durability
  • novel concrete construction applications
  • chemical composition of construction products.
