Welcome to the CTU
The Concrete Technology Unit (CTU) was established in 1989 and has grown into a world class research Centre of Excellence. It is guided by an Advisory Committee of leading practitioners and is committed to carrying out research to the highest level. The Unit's state-of-the-art research facilities and has a broad research base covering concrete science, environment, technology and construction; durability, repair and maintenance strategies; recycling/reuse of materials and sustainability issues; novel construction applications; and risk assessment and whole life cost analysis. Funding for research is widely based: research councils, government and industry. This combination provides a culture where industry and academia can move together to optimise concrete for cost effectiveness, whilst allowing flexibility for radical innovation and development.
The CTU has 3 visiting industrial Professors (Professors Peter Hewlett, Tom Harrison and Pal Chana who work alongside the Director (Dr Roderick Jones), 1 Senior Lecturer (Dr Michael McCarthy), 2 Lecturers (Drs Thomas Dyer and Moray Newlands) and 3 Research Teaching Fellows (Drs Laszlo Csetenyi, Judith Halliday and Li Zheng).
