The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) is the leading international institution for research and post-graduate teaching in its areas of expertise, and attracts some 160 post-graduate students per year from across the world to its Masters and Doctorate Programmes. CEPMLP has an extensive network of contacts and relationships across academia, industry and the public sector, both in the UK and around the world.
CEPMLP's research agenda is multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary in nature and international in scope. The Centre has successfully secured multi-million pound research grants and is expanding its collaborative research activities within and outside the U.K.
A full-time Post-doctoral Research Assistant position for a fixed period of 3.5 years is now available at the Centre to work with Dr. Subhes Bhattacharyya on a research project funded by EPSRC/ DfID dealing with the off-grid, decentralised electricity supply issues in South Asia. The successful applicant will provide the essential support to the research activity in the project and will participate in study visits to South Asia, capacity building and knowledge transfer activities. We are looking for an applicant with a strong background in energy – especially in decentralized, off-grid systems – preferably with prior research experience in a related area. The candidate should be capable of working in an inter-disciplinary environment and of combining engineering, economics, management, social and environmental dimensions in the research. The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record and have completed doctoral studies at the time of application. Preference will be given to applicants who have published first authored papers in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and have work experience in South Asia. The position is available from 1 January 2010.
Job Description

Carry out and deliver research works as assigned by the Principal Investigator of the Project

Carry out any project-related administrative and operational duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator of the Project

Assist in the planning, management and monitoring of the Research Project

Take part in the development and implementation of capacity building and knowledge transfer activities related to the project

Take part in the study visits, conference/ seminars and field activities related to the project delivery and dissemination.

Assist in supervising the research of visitors from partner teams participating in the staff exchange programme

Collaboration with project partners and with other CEPMLP staff in delivering the project
