Professor Todd Weiler is a Honorary Lecturer at CEPMLP.
Professor Weiler is currently completing a S.J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor USA. His thesis is devoted to the principles of international economic law. He is also interested in the transnational and international aspects of regulation in the field of electronic commerce, including various intellectual property law issues.
Called to the Bar of Ontario, Professor Weiler's legal practice focuses exclusively on international trade and investment law, particularly NAFTA Chapter 11 arbitration. He has served as counsel or expert counsel for investors in more NAFTA arbitrations than any other lawyer, including some of the earliest ones.
In addition to his responsibilities as a Research Fellow at CEPMLP, and his international arbitration practice, Professor Weiler maintains the leading site on NAFTA investor-state arbitration: www.naftalaw.org.
Professor Weiler holds an LL.M. in international law from the University of Michigan, a LL.M. in international law from the University of Ottawa, an LL.B. and an M.A. in public policy from the University of Western Ontario and an Hons. B.A. from the University of Waterloo. Professor Weiler served as Law Clerk to the Honourable Mr. Justice Wetston of the Federal Court of Canada in 1997-1998, and has also provided trade and regulatory policy advice to several Canadian federal government departments, including: Revenue Canada (Customs), the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada (Regulatory Affairs Division), Industry Canada (Trade Policy: Services Division) and the Department of Canadian Heritage (Trade and Investment Policy Branch).
