Peter Cameron has a growing national and international reputation based on many years of research and teaching at the CEPMLP in Dundee.
Evidence of this reputation is provided by several indicators in 2010-2011:
- Peter has been asked to provide comment on current energy issues such as the Fukushima tragedy and Libyan oil by BBC Newsnight, BBC national news TV, BBC Radio 4 and Holyrood Magazine, as well as the Scots newspapers on several occasions. He was quoted by the former Scottish Industry Minister Jim Mather in his opening speech in a debate on Electricity Market Reform, and his book on energy investment was referred to. The Head of Energy Projects (Scottish Government) referred to the book as “core reading” in the Minister’s office, demonstrating research impact.
- Peter has been invited by HMG to provide briefings to Government Ministers and also to the Duke of York as the UK International Trade special representative;
- Peter was invited to address MSPs on the anniversary of the Lisbon Treaty at Holyrood: in the advertising Peter was described as Scotland’s leading energy law expert;
- Peter addressed an audience of 500 people at an international mining conference in South Africa as speaker, and has made presentations at conferences in Washington DC, Vancouver, Cape Town (twice) and ;
- Peter has been invited to act as General Rapporteur to the International Federation for European Law Congress in Tallin in 2012. This is the premier congress for a group of around 500 judges, regulators and academics, who meet each year to discuss EU law (www.fide2012.eu). This is a rare distinction and recognition of his work on European law over more than a decade.
- Peter was invited to join a small expert team to participate in a high-level meeting on energy security at the offices of the Russian state gas company, Gazprom, in Moscow. The meeting was covered by Russian TV and media and preceded a visit to Brussels by PM Putin.
- Peter has had regular meetings with officials of the Scottish Government and Parliament about a range of energy and climate change issues.
- Peter will represent the CEPMLP at the official launch of the World Bank Source Book project in Accra, Ghana, in September 2011.
