Professor Dr. Kurt Deketelaere is CEPMLP's Honorary Professor for Climate Change Law. He is a Professor of Law at the University of Leuven in Belgium. His specialism lies in Environmental and Energy Law, and he teaches in both the Faculties of Law and of Engineering. He has been Director of the Institute of Environmental and Energy Law at Leuven since 1995, and was a visiting professor at the Universities of Sydney, Singapore and London. Kurt is presently the Chief of Staff in the Flemish Government's Ministry for Public Works, Energy, Environment and Nature.

On successful completion, a candidate will:
(1) Understand the impact and effect of soft law (international law) obligations relating to climate change and impact on energy sector and energy policy
(2) Understand the enforcement mechanisms of regional and national climate change mitigation schemes
(3) be able to discuss enforcement and implementation of climate change obligations relating to energy
