James Hope is an English Solicitor-Advocate and Consultant with Advokatfirman Vinge KB, in Stockholm, Sweden, where he practises international arbitration.

He has acted as arbitrator, counsel, and advocate in numerous international arbitrations under the ICC, SCC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and other rules, in Stockholm, London, Paris, Geneva and several other seats of arbitration, and involving English, Swedish, Finnish, French, Italian, and various US laws, as well as under CISG, UNIDROIT principles of law, and bilateral investment treaties.  He has particular experience of high-value energy disputes.

James Hope was previously counsel with a major US law firm in London, and he practised international arbitration in London for over 10 years before moving to Sweden in 2006.  He also has considerable experience of commercial litigation in the English High Court and Court of Appeal, and in the Court of Session in Scotland.

Being qualified as a solicitor in both England and Scotland, and now living and working in Sweden, James Hope has knowledge of both common law and civil law systems.

He publishes and lectures frequently on international arbitration. In addition to his work at the CEPMLP, James Hope has taught international arbitration courses at both Stockholm University and the McGeorge School of Law. He was educated at Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities.

Teaching

James Hope is course director of the Introduction to International Commercial Arbitration, which is an annual 5-day course providing delegates with practical insights and training on how to conduct an international commercial arbitration, using a real-life case study.
