ResearchHis multi-disciplinary research (involving the Centre of Environmental Change and Human Resilience (CECHR), the Centre for Energy Petroleum and Mineral Law Policy (CEPMLP), the School of Law and the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics) has the objective of analysing the impact of climate change/environmental legislation on the promotion of renewable energy. Specifically, Geoffrey will examine what role there is for climate change legislation with reference to specific technology, and how to select an appropriate portfolio of policy action and instruments that does justice to all stages in the development cycle of different renewable energy technologies (RETs). This study will combine different perspectives of engineering and life-cycle studies of RETs, and law-policy. It involves different aspects which need to be investigated, e.g. the potential impact of embedded distributional generation on energy supply security, fuel supply security, integration of different types of RETs, financial incentives for RETs (feed-in tariffs, renewable obligations, emissions trading etc) in a liberalised energy market.
