Chevening-Rio Tinto Scholarships

Rio Tinto is a leading global mining group that focuses on finding, mining and processing the Earth’s mineral resources. They were first incorporated as a business in 1873 in Spain. With headquarters in the UK, they are strongly represented in Australia and North America, and also have significant businesses in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. Their businesses include open pit and underground mines, mills, refineries, smelters and power stations, including a significant hydropower portfolio, as well as a number of research and service facilities. They also own and operate infrastructure that takes  products to customers, including railways, ports and ships.

Chevening and Rio Tinto

Partnering with universities and colleges helps Rio Tinto build the human resources to shape the future of the mining industry. They believe they are most likely to achieve their common aim of responsible global growth if they support talented people in developing countries to realise their potential.  Among those they assist will be future leaders, important to the industries and communities in which they operate.

Rio Tinto specifically supports the LLM in Mineral Law and Policy at CEPMLP. This programme helps enhance the rule of law in countries where Rio Tinto operates, by training promising students who will in the future lead improvements to legal and regulatory regimes in their countries relating to mineral exploration and development.
