Events and Activities - Visiting Presenters
The CEPMLP and Mining Programme host visiting speakers and presenters on a wide range of topics related to mining. These include talks and workshops with the audience being both staff and students, as the topics aid in keeping informed of current developments and issues affecting the mining industry. Recent visiting presenters have included:
- Professor Marcia Langton (Australia, Melbourne University, Professor of Australian Indigenous Studies) gave a three day workshop on Indigenous People and Mining;
- Mr Luis Lucero (Argentina, Cárdenas Di-Ció Romero Tarsitano & Lucero, partner) gave a two day workshop on The role of local counsel in mining project finance;
- Dr Fred Cawood (South Africa, University of the Witwatersrand, Associate Professor) spoke on Issues Arising from the new South African Mineral Law and Policy Framework;
- Dr Lorenzo Cotula (UK, International Institute for Environment and Development, Senior Researcher in Law and Sustainable Development, Natural Resources) on Reconciling Regulatory Stability and Evolution of Environmental Standards in Investment Contracts: Towards a Rethink of Stabilization Clauses.
- Mr Bruce Harvey (Australia, Rio Tinto, Global practice leader – Community Relations) on Mining and Community;
- Mr Stephen O'Sullivan (Brazil, Mattos Filho Advogados, partner) on Mining in Brazil and foreign investors' main concerns;
- Mr Tim Shanahan (Australia, University of Western Australia, Director of Energy & Minerals Initiative) on Resource Industries in Western Australia;
- Mr Olle Ostensson (Switzerland, UN Conference on Trade and Development, Chief, Diversification and Natural Resources Section Commodities Branch) on The Development Implications of Higher Oil Prices - with particular emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa and the Transport Sector;
- Mr Greg Mcintyre SC (Australia, John Toohey Chambers) on Indigenous Interests in land: the protections of the common law and international law;
- Dr John Taylor (Australia, Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research, Deputy) on Applied Demography and Corporate Social Responsibility;
