Mining Research and Resources - Mining and development issues
Elizabeth Bastida presented the preliminary report "Enhancing Law, Policy and Institutions to Support the Contribution of Mining to Sustainable Development in Romania", prepared jointly with Ms Anida Yupari, at the conference "Mining in Romania - Solutions for the Future", organised by the Romanian Deputy Chamber and the Soros Foundation Romania at the Parliament House. Evelyn Dietsche was commissioned to draft a paper on developmental state capacity and institutional change in mineral-rich countries for the United National Research Institute for Social Development. She presented an early draft at a UNRISD workshop on Financing Social Policies in Mineral-Rich Countries in April 2008 in Geneva.
In September 2008, Evelyn Dietsche presented the ICMM's recent work on Mining and Development at the 5th International Congress on Women and Mining in Trujillo, Peru. The presentation included the results of her earlier case study work on Peru for the Resource Endowment Initiative. There is more information on this available here.
