Mining Research and Resources - Indigenous agreements
The Mining Programme has ongoing research into mining's interaction with indigenous parties.
CEPMLP received funding from the Nuffield Foundation for research into how courts/tribunals interpret agreements and other documents involving indigenous parties. The database is available here.
John Southalan has written various materials on this area, including:
- Australian Indigenous-resource Developments: Martu People v Reward Minerals; and
- Authorisation Of Native Title Claims - Problems With A 'Claim Group Representative Body' (awaiting publication).
He is currently co-editor (with Kenneth Cullota) of a forthcoming special issue of Oil, Gas & Energy Law on Resource Development and Indigenous People - information available here.
