The International Business Law and Transactions programme is designed to meet the evolving needs of governmental and international agencies, multinational corporations and legal and financial consultancy firms. The aim is to develop expertise in the following areas:

International Business Law and Transactions
  • Commercial and treaty negotiations;

  • Infrastructure investment;

  • International project finance;

  • Contract and economic treaty drafting; and

  • The management of these relations within national and international regulatory frameworks.

The IBT programme has the unique feature of combining rigorous analytical work with intensive practical exercises and case studies. The design of our programme is different. Just like most conventional LL.M. programmes, it rigorously deals with international public law and the regulatory aspect of international business transactions.

But unlike virtually all such institutions, our programme provides an in-depth understanding of international business from the business perspective itself focusing on the "transactional" dimension: negotiating, drafting, contracting and managing long-term international business contracts and treaties. The high point of the course is an internet and video-conference-based simulated negotiations exercise concerning a joint venture business which we run with the International Law Programme at the American University in Washington, D.C. This combination is delivered by staff with enormous practical experience in the field.
