Professor Peter Cameron was invited to provide testimony to a House of Lords sub-committee on EU Energy Policy as part of its examination of issues of low carbon and economic competitiveness.
On 28th November, he answered a number of questions concerning contracts and investment, energy security and competition, as well as interconnectors and the impact of the next enlargements on EU energy policy.
He was critical of the current increase in state intervention in energy markets in the UK and of the projected large budget increases in the EU for new interconnectors, arguing that a better management of existing interconnectors would make more sense and that many proposed interconnectors would fail to be built due to permitting restrictions in European countries, noting how difficult it is already in the UK.
