ADMISSIONS

Q: Are the entry requirements the same for distance learning and full-time programmes?

A: Yes.

Q: What are the requirements from applicants whose native language is not English to show evidence of proficiency in the English language, such as TOEFL, IELTS, or others?

A: The minimum requirements are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 603, 100 on the internet-based test.

Q: I am a Nigerian citizen, educated in Nigeria (to Bachelor's level).  Do I need to provide evidence of English Language qualification?

A: No, if English has been your main language for education, you do not need to provide evidence of English proficiency.

Q: What are the entry requirements for me to obtain admission into the LLM programmes?

A: The Minimum requirement for entry to the LLM programme is a first degree of at least Lower Second class honours.  We also require proof of English language proficiency for students whose first language is not English.

Q: What are the entry requirements for me to obtain admission into the MBA programmes?

A: The Minimum requirement for entry to the MBA programme is a first degree of at least Lower Second class honours, plus two to three years relevant work experience. We also require proof of English language proficiency for students whose first language is not English.

FEES

Q: What are the tuition fees for the LLM programmes?

Q: What are the current costs per annum?

A: There is no set fee per annum, as modules can be purchased one at a time.

Q: What costs are there in addition to the programme costs?

A: 1. Loss of Student ID card. If you lose your ID card, you will be charged £10 for a replacement.

2. MBA students who fail any of the examinations for core management modules will be required to pay £100 for each re-sit.  There is also a fee of £100 for any student who registers to sit an exam but fails to cancel or defer sitting the exam by an acknowledged deadline.

Q: How much I will pay in first installment for admission?

A: The first payment would be £350 for registration for either LLM or MBA
Programmes

Q: I would like to know if there are any scholarships for me to study either MBA or LLM?

A: At present, we do not know of any funding bodies which provide scholarships for Distance Learning study.  Some students apply for sponsorship from their employers.

Q: In terms of fees, does it matter that I am British and not overseas?

A: No, the fees are the same for students anywhere in the World.

Q: How can I pay for my distance learning modules?

A: You can pay by cheque, credit/debit card or bank transfer using the module order payment form

ATTENDANCE IN DUNDEE

Q: How much on-campus study will the LLM require?

A: Three weeks for the CEPMLP Induction Programme.

Q: How much on-campus study will the MBA require?

A: One week during the summer of your second or third year's study to attend the Business Strategy in the Extractive Industries Module.

Q: How frequently is the three week compulsory Induction Programme at Dundee run?

A: Twice per year, each January and September.

Q: Can the university arrange temporary accommodation for this purpose?

A: No, but the DL Admin team will help you to find affordable accommodation near to the campus.

STRUCTURE

Q: How are the modules assessed?

A: In the LLM programmes, modules are assed by one three-hour examination and either one research paper of 3 – 4,000 words or two case studies

In the MBA programmes, the five core management modules are assessed by one three- hour examination only.  The five CEPMLP specialist modules are assessed by one three- hour examination and either one research paper of 3 – 4,000 words or two case studies

Q: Is there a particular examination schedule for each MBA module?

A: Yes, there are at least two examination diets per year for each of the MBA core management modules.  There are two examination diets per year for CEPMLP modules (June and December).

Q: Is there a particular examination schedule for each LLM module?

A: There are two examination diets per year for CEPMLP modules.

Q: What is the format of the programme study materials?

A: For each module, you will be sent hard copies of a study guide and core reading materials.  You will also have access to additional resources via our Virtual Learning Environment, which is a web-based student support system. Students have regular e-mail and/or telephone contact with their tutors, who provide academic advice.

Q: How many modules are required to be taken for the LLM?

A: One on-campus module (Induction Programme), plus seven distance learning modules, then a dissertation or internship

Q: How many modules are required to be taken for the MBA?

A: Five core management modules, plus five CEPMLP specialist modules, then a two-part Integrative Strategy Module.

Q: Where will I sit my examinations?

A: We will arrange for you to sit examinations at a British Council office or other academic institution as near as possible to your location.

Q: When do I have to submit my research papers?

A: Distance learning students are required to submit their research papers in the same academic year as they have taken the examination for any module. As soon as a research paper is received, it is logged and passed for marking. The aim is to provide feedback as quickly as possible. As with full-time students, all marks are provisional until 'Agreed' by the CEPMLP Board of Examiners.

APPLICATIONS

Q: Is there a deadline to submit an application?

A: No, you may apply for the Distance learning MBA or LLM at any time during the year.

Q: How do I apply for the LLM/MBA?

A: Apply online via UKPASS.

Q: How long does the enrolment process take?

A: Once you have been offered and accepted admission to the programme, the enrolment procedure normally only takes a few weeks.  An invoice for Registration and a Matriculation schedule will be sent to you, in order for you to check that we have all your details correct.  It should then be signed and returned to us, along with two passport sized photographs.  Once this has been received by us, we will issue your student ID card and arrange for you to have access to your personal email account and other electronic resources.

GENERAL

Q: How many students are enrolled in the distance learning programmes? 

A: At the moment we have over 100 distance learning students, but this number is growing.

Q: Is the LLM usually reserved for qualified lawyers, or does it also have applications among non-lawyers?

A: The LLM is not aimed exclusively at qualified lawyers.  Our students have a wide range of first degrees, including Economics, Petroleum Engineering and Accountancy.

Q: Will an LLM still be an asset in the eyes of employers, even if it is not coupled with professional legal qualifications?

A: Yes, the LLM and MBA programmes are designed to be of value to a wide range of professionals working within the Natural Resources industries. As such, they are valued by large companies, government agencies and non-government organizations in the sector.

Q: Is the program officially accredited and will it be recognised in Nigeria?

A: Yes, many of our distance learning students come from or work in Nigeria and their study is often financed by their employers.  The distance learning degree programmes have the same academic value as our on-campus degree programmes.
