Who is it for?

Professionals involved in managing international investments in oil and gas ventures: negotiators, lawyers, analysts, procurement managers, corporate development managers, governmental relations executives, officials in state petroleum companies, and Ministries of Energy, Finance and Geological Surveys.

Why Participate

Delegates will gain an in-depth understanding of natural gas industry agreements, including sales and purchase, transportation, and production related services. Participation in the simulated negotiation of fuel supply agreement for power generation with third party transportation. Application of computer models to determine pricing and economic performance of project.

Learning Outcomes

Natural gas is increasing the 'fuel-of-choice' for applications ranging from power generation, to industrial and commercial use. A variety of contracts must be successfully negotiated along each stage of the 'gas chain', including resource agreements with host governments, joint marketing agreements among field participants, sales and purchase agreements and processing, transportation and storage contracts for both LNG and natural gas delivered by pipeline. Additionally, there are financial and regulatory considerations that are specific to the natural gas industry.

This seminar is presented in a workshop format that is based around a case study for the 'Big Blue' gas project simulating the development of natural gas to replace imported oil. Participants receive instruction on various commercial, operational, financial and regulatory aspects of the natural gas industry with special emphasis on options and risks for gas utilisation. Key issues in contracting for production, processing, transportation, storage and sale are analyzed with the assistance of negotiation checklists and precedents. Participants engage in the simulated negotiation of a gas sales and purchase agreement and gas transportation agreement and can choose whether to be the 'seller', 'buyer' or 'transporter'.

The economic consequences of each round are simulated using GasPak software.
