Who is it for?

Negotiators, lawyers, geologists, accountants, contract analysts, engineers, planners, economists, petroleum marketing representatives, bankers, auditors, managers, consultants and others (from both the international oil company side and the host country side), whose work requires an understanding of inter-company international petroleum contracts.

Why Participate

This seminar will help delegates understand the function, key elements, and alternatives to the agreements involved in international petroleum agreements.

Learning Outcomes

International petroleum development involves a veritable maze of lengthy and complicated agreements. This is an introductory to intermediate course covering: International Operating Agreements ("JOAs") and related Accounting Procedures; International Participation ("Farmout") Agreements; International Study and Bid Group Agreements; Gas Sales Contracts; Crude Oil Sales and Lifting Agreements, Consulting Agreements with emphasis on anticorruption provisions and practices, Service Agreements with emphasis on risk allocation provisions, Confidentiality Agreements, and, as time permits, Unitization Agreements.

The focus of the seminar is to identify primary issues from the perspective of the parties to the contracts and offer alternative approaches. Emphasis is on practical skills, familiarization and indepth understanding of main types of inter-company contracts used in the international oil and gas industry. Participants work in teams on simulated negotiation exercises to develop skills.
