Beans on Toast

Jean has been working alongside Sarah Doherty, a student from Durham University on placement at JHI. They have been helping primary children to think about how much water it takes to grow and process the food on our tables.

Sarah carried out research into how much water it takes to grow and process the ingredients for  one portion of beans on toast, it took several hundred litres!

The P4 children in Wormit Primary listened to the story of beans on toast and cooked some together in the classroom. The children then made story boards to tell their own version of the story.

On the second visit the children discussed what they had learned about water and how we use it and made some paintings of tomato, bean and barley plants from JHI which will be used in the Beans on Toast Section of the Living Field Website.
