David Oscar Yawson, a CECHR PhD student attended the Zurich Plant Science Centre - European Training and Networking Activity (PSC-ETNA) Summer School on "Food Security - How can Science and Policy Contribute?", held in Klewenalp (Switzerland) from 6-14 September 2011. He presented his work on "The Contribution of Virtual Water to Food Security" and won second prize in the poster competition. The Summer School brought together 18 PhD students in European Institutions. It consisted of lectures, discussions and group work on various aspects of food security, ranging from crop breeding, crop water use, socio-economics of crop production and consumption, under-utilized crops, agro-environmental sustainability and policy issues.
