Backing of bid to host 2015 World Water Forum in Glasgow

Leading figures from Dundee University announced their strong support for Scotland’s bid to host the 2015 World Water Forum, which would attract c.20,000 delegates to Glasgow. Professor Peter Cameron, Director for CEPMLP, represented Dundee at Edinburgh Castle on 14th July 2011 to meet the World Water Council delegation, who were in Scotland to learn about plans for the potential Forum in Glasgow.Professor Patricia Wouters, Director of the IHP-HELP Centre at Dundee believes Scotland ‘is an ideal location for the global community to meet and find new solutions to tackle the world water crisis’.

A collaborative project to identify solutions for decentralised off-grid electricity generation in developing countries.

In October 2009, a five-year project commenced with CEPMLP at the helm: OASYS South Asia.The project aims to identify solutions that are techno-economically viable, institutionally feasible, socio-politically acceptable and environmentally sound. It focuses on local solutions for wider application, and combines case studies, a demonstration component and applied academic research.CEPMLP attracts a large number of students and researchers from the developing world where electricity access is a major issue. Consequently, this project will directly feed into the research and teaching whilst simultaneously generating potentiallywidespread social impacts.
