Leading academics in a diverse range of disciplines drive a unique mix of research and learning in the College of Art, Science & Engineering. The College celebrates its distinctive mix of disciplines and seeks to capitalise on the enormous scope for interdisciplinary activity to achieve an imaginative, ambitious and visionary future.
The College currently comprises three Schools: Engineering, Physics & Mathematics; the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design; and the School of Computing. The College has a population of 2,500 students of which 15% are international. Many of our staff hold prestigious awards, including several holders of the OBE (Order of the British Empire) and numerous fellows of learned. Our staff hail from over 40 different countries, and make distinctive contributions to society through research, teaching and knowledge transfer. We recently appointed our first joint Chair with Life Sciences – building on our increasing focus on the bio interfaces of maths and physics.
Undergraduate programmes span the visual disciplines, engineering, physics, mathematics and computing, accredited by professional institutions where appropriate. Some of our most successful programmes involve new cross-disciplinary collaborations such as product and digital interactive design. A suite of more than 20 postgraduate programmes includes world-leading courses in medical technologies, design ethnography, forensic art, geotechnical engineering, renewable energy, mathematical biology and business intelligence.
The College attracts substantial research awards of over £7m each year and has particular strengths in civil engineering and art & design – both rated top in
