JobShop / Placement Base
The JobShop / Placement Base, located on the ground floor, contains a wealth of information
on a wide range of employers and occupations, from Teaching, Engineering, Law
and Scientific Research and Development to Voluntary Work and taking a Year
Out.
- Occupations (Blue Folders)
Contains information on over 1000 occupations. The
information is AGCAS classified and you should start with the Yellow
Index (which is in alphabetical order) to locate the occupation about
which you require further details.
- Employers (Red Folders)
This section has information on some of the major recruiters of graduates.
Each folder contains a list of employer links.
- Vacation & Work Experience (Black Folders)
In addition to opportunities for vacation times, this section also
contains information on placements.
- Postgraduate Study & Funding (Blue and Green Folders)
This section has reference material on where in the UK you can do a postgraduate
course. It also contains information on funding.
- Advice & Tips Series
Useful leaflets on CVs, covering letters, personal statements, assessment
centres and interviews.

Networked computer for student/graduate use giving access to the web,
Vacancy Database, ChipFix (searchable
funding database) and
Prospect Planner.
During semester time, the JobShop / Placement Base is manned Monday to Friday, 10am - 4pm. Outwith these times and during opening hours, students are encouraged to
use JobShop / Placement Base resources on a self-help basis.
How up to date is the information?
Incoming information is date stamped so you can check how old it is. In general,
each organisation sends literature at about the same time each year. Please
do not remove anything from the files. A coloured dot on the top right
hand corner indicates takeaway copies are available. Other items may be
photocopied at 5p per A4 sheet or 10p per A3 sheet. Photocopier in
Reception (ground floor).
