What is Personal Development Planning (PDP) and My PDP?

PDP in higher education is a structured process to help you reflect on your own learning, performance and achievements, in order to construct action points to develop your employability. By creating an online ePortfolio, you can also share selected information with others.

PDP at the University of Dundee is called My PDP and has been designed to support you as you engage with the PDP process, to help you plan your personal, educational and career development. You may work through My PDP, either as directed by your School, as part of a module or programme, or as an individual. You will find it under the My PDP tab in My Dundee.

Why do PDP?

As you work through the materials on My PDP, there will be help to:

  • get started in planning for the future in a timely way

  • make the most of your time at the University of Dundee

  • record your progress online via an ePortfolio

  • improve your employment prospects by focusing on your transferable skills

  • build a better CV

  • How does PDP work?

By using the advice and examples available on My PDP, PDP helps you to:

  • think about where you are now, where your interests lie, what your strengths/weaknesses are and the improvements you would like to achieve

  • plan where you want to go, what skills and knowledge you need to get there and how you will acquire them via learning opportunities open to you

  • take action, set personal targets, work towards these and record the progress you have made

  • reflect on your learning and achievements and areas for further personal, academic and career development.

  • By creating a PDP Portfolio, using the templates available on My PDP, it is easy to choose what information to share with your tutors, careers adviser, family or friends.
