ACCA
ACCA, the global body for professional accountants, offers a future that is diverse,
challenging and full of opportunity.
Qualifying with ACCA is your first step towards a successful career in accountancy, business and
finance. Whatever your ambitions in the business world, a background in accountancy will ensure
that you are equipped to achieve them. The ACCA Qualification will provide you with the skills
and knowledge you need to build a career full of opportunity, diversity and rewards.
The breadth of the ACCA Qualification makes it the perfect platform to launch any business career.
You can acquire the technical skills that employers are demanding to steer the business through
these volatile times, without pigeon-holing yourself for the future. Our qualification gives you
the transferable skills you need, so that in the long-term you can apply for finance roles in any
sector, in any business, anywhere in the world.
As a global professional accountancy body, ACCA is better positioned to benefit graduates both
now and in the future. The global portability of the qualification means that you can seek
opportunities both home and abroad. Economic growth in the UK may be slow, but the predicted
growth of the BRIC economies means that there are increasing opportunities globally for
accountants. ACCA has been in China for over 20 years and Russia for 10 years and our reputation
in those countries is stronger than any other international accountancy body.
ACCA's flexible approach means that there are no artificial barriers to prevent you from
qualifying whatever you face in the short-term. Internships at university can count towards the
practical experience requirements of the qualification and enhance employability. Also exemptions
from a relevant degree means fewer exams for students to sit. As the qualification isn't tied into
a training contract, graduates can move between jobs and be assured that the work and effort that
they have put into their qualification won't be lost. You can go into another role and continue
your studies from where you left off.

understanding among people of different ethnic, religious or cultural backgrounds by providing a
unique and innovative academic environment and community for learning, teaching and research via
the study of Islam and Muslims.
We believe that there is an urgent social need, both locally and internationally, for all
elements of society to be engaging within the debates on the study of Islam and Muslims, and to
be doing so together with one another within the same classroom. We approach these timely topics
via lenses of multiculturalism and critical analysis.

Guide Dogs for the Blind
It is now 80 years since the first Guide Dog qualified in the UK. From those humble beginnings
we now have 4,600 pairings, ie a Guide Dog matched to a blind or partially sighted person. This is
a very small percentage given there are a further 180,000 blind or partially sighted people
currently registered in the UK who never leave home alone. Guide Dogs Association is working very
hard to change this to enable more blind and partially sighted people to have the confidence and
freedom that having a Guide Dog brings.
A Guide Dog currently costs in the region of £50,000 from birth through to retirement. We receive
no Government support or Lottery funding. We raise funds ourselves through our volunteer
fundraisers and are dependent solely on the generousity of the public in supporting our various
ventures. There are many ways in which the public can support us, through our fundraising efforts,
through donations, legacies in Wills, sponsor a puppy, name a puppy and much more.
We currently have around 10,000 volunteers within the UK, varying from fundraisers, puppy walkers,
boarders, drivers, speakers etc. Volunteers are the life-blood of our organisation. It enables us
to carry out our many functions and also ensures that as much as possible of every penny raised goes towards Guide Dogs and is not swallowed up in administration costs. We desperately need more volunteers either as Branch Members in your local area or as helpers for organising specific fundraising functions. For more information on this please contact me. Fundraising is fun.
