Brodies
A Scottish law firm with a national and international capability, Brodies has a reputation for
uncompromising quality, expertise and innovation. With eighteen practice areas ranked No.1 by
independent directories, the firm lays claim to more leading practitioners than any other firm in
Scotland. While growing as a full-service commercial firm, expanding our specialist capabilities
in rapidly changing sectors such as technology and renewable energy, we have continued to
strengthen our reputation in traditional core areas such as commercial property, private client
and rural affairs.
A traineeship at Brodies will provide you with the right skills base to develop your career. It
will equip you with the legal expertise and acumen necessary to become a solicitor who can provide
the legal service our clients are looking for. During your traineeship you will experience work in
a minimum of three business areas and you will work from any of our offices in either Edinburgh,
Glasgow or Aberdeen.
We have seats in Litigation, Employment, Property, Banking, Corporate and Private Client. Through
these departments you can gain exposure to specialisms such as IP/IT, Construction, Projects and
Family Law. All of our trainees are expected to do seats in Property which is our largest, market
leading department. You will also have access to a quality IT system that exploits IT to meet the
needs of the clients and the firm.
Where better than a
Summer Placement at Brodies to give you hands on experience of working in a
commercial law firm! This is an excellent opportunity for you to
experience the inner workings of our firm. It will allow you a greater understanding of our
business, our values, our culture and our people, and will also give you the opportunity to
experience, first hand, the quality of our work and the range of top quality clients that we act
on behalf of. During your placement you will be
based in one department. However, we also want you to hear about all of our different departments
and the different work that they do. You will get the chance to do this at
the "Learning Breakfast" sessions and there you can gain a broader exposure to the business.
We want you to get the best out of your summer placement which is why we will assign you a mentor
within your department. They will be on hand to guide you through the placement, answer your
questions and assist you with key tasks. As part of your placement your mentor will set a research
project. This will help you use some of the skills you have already learned at University as well
as provide us with some beneficial legal knowledge!
