The Centre for Archive and Information Studies (CAIS) is part of the School of Humanities, University of Dundee.
Teaching
CAIS offers postgraduate distance learning programmes for information professionals and courses for family and local historians, delivered in an interactive online environment and allowing flexible part time study.
Programmes are suitable for UK and international students
The programmes deliver core skills and theories in these subject areas and the Masters programmes lead to professionally accredited qualifications. A wide selection of optional modules enables students to tailor their qualification to their personal requirements. Regular contact between students and tutors, based in the UK and overseas, broadens the experience, facilitates the development of networks and reduces potential student isolation. Multiple entry points provide maximum flexibility of study.
Entry requirements
The normal admission requirement is at least a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent. Candidates whose native language is not English will be expected to produce proof of proficiency in the English Language: normally 6.5 in British Council IELTS (not less than 6.5 in each component) or 600 in TOEFL (at least 250 in the computer-based test) with a minimum TWE of 5 or above. Alternative qualifications such as the Cambridge Advanced Certificate (Grade A minimum) or Cambridge Proficiency (Grade A or B) will also be accepted. In addition to the academic transcript, references, a personal statement and linguistic proficiency documentation, applicants may be required to submit a sample of written work as stipulated by the Convener of the programme.
Research
CAIS is developing an active research programme including the Royal Society of Edinburgh funded 'Investigating the Archive' project and a doctoral programme in Memory and Identity.
Staff are members of the AHRC Peer Review College and Panel C.
Staff regularly research and present papers at international conferences and workshops.
