Monojit Chatterji is Bonar Professor of Applied Economics. He graduated from Elphinstone College, University of Bombay with First Class Honours in Economics and Statistics. He won a British Council scholarship to Christ's College, Cambridge, to read for the Economics Tripos. He graduated with First Class Honours in Economics and was awarded a Christ's College studentship. He also obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Before coming to Dundee he lectured at the University of Essex and has been a visiting professor at the Universities of California, Purdue, Vassar, and Oregon in the United States, ITAM in Mexico, and the Indian Statistical Institute.

General research interests are in the economics of human resources and in economic development. Areas of expertise include the economics of education and training, trade unions and labour contracts, political economy of India and world development.
