Jim Haslam is an Honorary Professor in the School of Business. After graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first class honours degree, Jim Haslam qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Whinney (now part of Ernst and Young), becoming a senior accountant by the time he left to begin his academic career as a lecturer at the University of Aston, Birmingham in 1984. In the succeeding years he has been a lecturer at the University College of North Wales and at the London School of Economics. In 1990 he became senior lecturer at the University of Essex, Colchester, where he was also awarded his PhD entitled "On the Prescribing of Accounting and Accounting Publicity: Accounting History as Critique". In 1995 he was appointed to the Chair of Accounting at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, where he was Head of the Department. He returned to the UK in 1998 to take up the post of Professor of Accountancy at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he was also the Head of Accountancy and Finance. He was appointed to the Chair in Accountancy & Business Finance at the University of Dundee in 2004. Jim is now Professor of Accounting at Durham Business School: Prof Jim Haslam, Durham University
