Summer Excursions

Friends should have received a booking form for the Summer Excursions in the recent newsletter. As numbers for some outings are limited, early booking is advisable. Private transport to be used. Please wear sensible shoes and bring waterproofs.

Balmerino Woods - Sun 15th May 2pm

Harry Lawson takes us on a woodland walk. Depart Balmerino Abbey. Cars may be parked on road outside Abbey. No facilities or refreshments available on this walk. Paths may be muddy. Cost £5

Twilight Walk & Friends' AGM - Weds 25th May

5.15pm Twilight Walk departing from the Visitor Centre, the Curator, Alasdair Hood, will take Friends on guided walk of the Garden.

6.15pm Refreshments (free to Friends, £2 for Visitors)

7pm AGM

Branklyn Garden, Perth - Weds 15th June 2pm

The Curator Steve McNamara will guide our walk, on which we should see meconopsis, a few Mylnefield lilies, rhododendrons and early summer flowers. Cost £5, though NTS members need only show membership card.
Route: Branklyn Garden is off the A90 at the eastern edge of Perth and is well sign-posted.

Southern Hemisphere Botanics, Tues 12th July 2pm

Ursula and Lorna McHardy have set up a medium-sized walled garden with plants and bulbs from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on the banks of the Firth of Forth at Crombie Point. Parking at Garden Cottage is limited so car- sharing is essential. The alternative is to park in Torryburn and walk about 15 minutes along the Shore Road footpath. Cost £5.
Route: Torryburn is off the A985 mid-way between Rosyth and Kincardine.

Willowhill, Newport on Tay - Weds 17th August 2pm

Eric Wright and Sally Lorimore’s garden, although still being developed, contains many fine plants, bulbs and alpines and is well worth a visit. Cost £3
Route: 1.5 miles south of Tay Road Bridge, at the roundabout, take the B995 to Newport. Willowhill is the first house on the left after Forgan Arts.

Megginch Castle - Weds 21st Sept 10am

At the beautiful garden of Mrs Drummond Herdman we will see the 1000-year old yews and the astrological garden; after which we will visit one of the few surviving orchards in Tayside. Sensible shoes should be worn. Cost £4
Route: Approach castle (PH2 7SW) by the westbound carriageway of the A90 Dundee-Perth road, half a mile after the Errol-Rait flyover, between two lodges.
