Dissertations
Single Honours American Studies 4th Year students must complete a dissertation which is a year-long module. Joint Honours students in 4th Year may also choose an American Studies dissertation as a module option if supervision resources permit but it is not obligatory. If you are interested in doing a Dissertation, you should make initial contact with Dr Matthew Ward (Email: m.c.ward@dundee.ac.uk).
Acceptance is dependent upon departmental agreement that the topic is suitable and can be adequately supervised from within the department. After acceptance an initial discussion will then take place with the appointed supervisor. The American Studies dissertation is based upon independent research into a specialised topic within American culture, History, Politics or literature. Dissertation topics have ranged widely in recent years, including US Foreign Policy and the Spectre of Bolshevism, Poetry of the Beat Generation, Hollywood and History, Witchcraft in Old and New England.
