The centre is part of Alzheimer’s Research UK




The ARUK East Central Scotland Network Centre is based in the Medical School in Ninewells Hospial, Dundee and is one of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s 15 centres of excellence for Alzheimer’s research in the UK.
The Centre is multi-disciplinary, with members spanning a variety of disciplines including pharmacology, psychiatry, psychology, neurology, social work and computing. There are 34 members who come from the universities of Dundee, St. Andrews, Edinburgh and local NHS trusts. The main aim of the centre is to facilitate collaborations among preclinical and clinical researchers in the field of Alzheimer's Disease.

The Alzheimer's Research UK Network links 15 of the UK's strongest centres of research. Network centres share data and findings, pool resources when advantageous and have an annual conference to exchange ideas and results. Alzheimer's Research UK funds the administration of the centre.

Current research projects:

  • Insulin signalling and disease - a link between Diabetes and Alzheimers?
  • The role of social stress as a vulnerability factor for Alzheimer's disease
  • The possible role of the protein amyloid-beta alcohol dehydrogenase (ABAD) in Alzheimer's disease
  • CIRCA: a multimedia reminiscence based system
