Dr Miles Witham
BM BCh PhD MRCP (UK)
Clinical Lecturer in Ageing and Health
NES/CSO Clinician Scientist
I graduated from Oxford University and worked in a number of
hospitals in the south of England and Australia before discovering
the delights of Scotland !
Current research interests centre on cardiovascular disease
in old age, with a particular interest in heart failure and
in the effects of vitamin D on vascular health. Ongoing projects
include studies of the effect of vitamin D in heart failure,
diabetes, stroke and hypertension, using BNP to direct treatment
of cardiovascular risk, plus a randomised controlled trial of
exercise training for older heart failure patients. Quality
of life measurement and quality improvement in health care are
other interests. I teach both medical and dental undergraduates,
and I am active within the British Geriatrics Society in promoting
research and research careers.
In October 2007, I took up an NES / CSO Clinician Scientist
award, with a duration of 5 years.
