Financial Benefits
Students find that their money goes further in Dundee. The cost of living is estimated to be 14 per cent lower than the UK average, and the second lowest for University cities in the UK (NatWest Student Living Index, 2010). A range of three-year degree programmes for suitably qualified candidates, rather than the standard four-year Scottish degree, are being pioneered to further reduce the financial burden on students, and - in addition to University residences - there is a plentiful supply of affordable accommodation to rent or buy across the cosmopolitan West End and City Centre areas.
Other financial benefits to studying at the University, include:
- Local companies recognising that Dundee has more students per head of population than any other Scottish city and offering discounts as a result.
- A variety of opportunities for students to find part-time positions, so they can earn extra money whilst they study. The Careers Service's JobShop and Placement Base initiatives make it easier to find suitable part-time work.
- A range of academic scholarships and bursaries available for eligible students.
- The average expenditure and debt of students studying in Scotland are lower than that of their counterparts in the rest of the UK.
- Dundee has been named the most cost-effective place to study in Scotland twice recently in annual surveys conducted by NatWest.
- DUSA shops and bars were ranked Top in the UK for value for money by THE Student Experience Survey 2010.
