Sir William Patey from Edinburgh graduated in 1975 with an MA in Modern History.
He has been British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia since April 2007 having served as Ambassador to Iraq (2005-6) and to Sudan (2002-5).
He is married to another Dundee graduate Vanessa Morrell (MA French 1978).
