My course and life in Dundee

I was extremely attracted to the course at Dundee, firstly because it was constantly ranked top 10 in the higher education league tables. Secondly, I love how specialised it is, as very few universities offer such speciality in Earthquake and Offshore Engineering. The course taught me how to solve real-life challenging problems, not to mention the strong industry linkage with my future employer - Subsea 7.

I was impressed with the thorough communication with the Course Director prior to the start of the course, during which I was able to express my preference and learn about the teaching contents.

Overall I love the University, with top-class standard facilities - Library, Institute of Sports and Exercise, learning environment (i.e. classrooms, teaching materials), and they are easily accessible.

I found it pretty easy to settle down in Dundee when I first arrived, and now I call it home!

Employability

The Career Service in Dundee organises multiple events throughout the year to increase employability for students. These include many employers presenting and meeting students at the University, as well as holding mock-interviews from which I benefited significantly. It has been very helpful and undoubtedly one of the main factors in helping me obtain my upcoming employment as a Graduate Engineer.

Collaborating with Subsea 7 for my dissertation has certainly helped me develop understanding of the company, and subsequently securing employment with them. I am excited about what the future has in hold for me, when I begin my career in September.

Advice for applicants

Students need to understand what studying for a MSc degree involves. It is a self-learning process. As an Engineering student, being pro-active and dedication are important and have been the main factors in my success. Postgraduate study is another significant investment for your future career; especially when applicants know exactly what they are after. Above all, make sure you enjoy what you’re doing as I feel that's what matters the most, always.

If you seek a high-standard education with a peaceful yet inspiring city, then go no further, Dundee is the one!
