Huaiying (Tina) Tu

Tina, from China, graduated in 2011 with an LLM in International Business Law & Transactions.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee University?

Because Dundee offered me a programme of challenge. My undergraduate major was International Economics and Trade. That is an Economics background. However, I thought the LLM courses and environment could enlarge my knowledge range and the programme that I chose was also very suitable for complementing my background.

What are your immediate plans after graduation?

Actually, I've already come back to China even before graduation. I'm working for a solar products manufacturer in China right now as one of their marketing representatives. The knowledge of energy and natural resourses which I got from CEPMLP (the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy) is very useful for this work.

What was the most enjoyable thing about your degree and why?

I think it was the experience both of study and life in Dundee. I took two enjoyable courses in CEPMLP - not like those I'd studied elsewhere which had been boring and colorless. In 'International Trade Law', Dr Desta helped me to build my self-confidence. It was my first course of the programme and provided me with a strong foundation to continue my study and whole life. In 'Negotiation Simulation', Janeth was just so kind and kept encouraging me. I even made a big break through in my social communications because of that course.

What sports activities or clubs/societies (if any) were you involved with?

I didn't get involved with any clubs in Dundee University, but I did become involved in two English classes in Dundee. One was in the University with Mark , the other was in the Steeple Church. They provided me with a lot of help in English.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Just enjoy your life in Dundee. It's a nice place for your study and living. Have fun with the study. Remember to enjoy the courses and you may learn a lot.

How did you find settling into life in the UK?

Actually, I struggled for some time to rent a flat in Dundee because I didn't apply for University accommodation. However, people from church and some other Chinese people helped me a lot. Finally, I got a very warm and enjoyable flat for the rest of the time I stayed in Dundee.
