Terry, from Zambia, has recently completed an MSc in Computing with International Business.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee University?

Having "googled" thoroughly, I found that the University of Dundee offered the best course to meet my career objectives. Secondly, it is located in a lovely middle-sized city, with a fantastic river view. The tuition fees and cost of living also appealed to me. It is very affordable!

What is the best thing about your course and why?

One of the most exciting things that I found on the course as an MSc student was that this is a very practical course. It practically prepares students for industry, it is like being on a combined academic and job placement of some sort in one year. All the courses are practical!

24/7 access to the computer labs in the Queen Mother Building (QMB) was also fantastic, coupled with the fact that all the computers had up-to-date tools for programming, network tools, database designers, matlab etc on them.

I noticed a low student-lecturer ratio which promotes personalized interaction with staff members and all computer science students regardless of which specific computing course one was doing and this proved very helpful as we were all able to learn from each other and share our knowledge and experiences.

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

Everything you need to know in Computing is in one place, University of Dundee!

What has been your best learning experience to date and why?

Regular visits from Technology industry experts such as Yahoo, Opera and Mozilla proved extremely beneficial. The Yahoo Hack Day where we had to come up with hacks and mashups was a very exciting and memorable experience for me.

What has been your best university experience to date and why?

The diversity of students' backgrounds and nationalities has personally helped me create friendships that, I believe, will last as long as I live.

How does this course fit into your career plans?

I am looking forward to the next stage in my career within a Telecoms or IT Key Support roles, supervisory roles or making a move sideways into a more managerial/account support role. I believe this course fits well with my ambitions by providing a balance between my technical and business career needs.

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

Small yet friendly city, I quickly settled. There is plenty of lovely accommodation, just right for your wallet.
