The course appealed to me and Dundee is one of the only schools in Scotland, which offers American Studies. The course is also highly rated. Also, the campus won me over with its compact size and brilliant accomodation.
American Studies and International Relations both offer a diverse range of subjects to study, including many aspects of Politics, History and English. The course is never boring, as there is always something new and exciting to learn.
Just work hard and have fun because the course is enjoyable. I'd also recommend reading a newspaper at least once a week to keep yourself up to date with current events, so that you have contemporary information to write about in your essays and speak about in tutorials.
I have learned time management here at university, which has proved essential with course work. Sometimes I get a lot of assignments all at once and this can seem daunting, but through efficiently managing my time and doing one piece of work at a time, my assignments are always handed in on time and are to the best of my ability.
Meeting all of my new friends in accomodation and through societies, as they are all amazing and have helped make my university experience brilliant! I've met some of my best friends here at university and we've had loads of great times together.
I have been a member of Opsoc (musical theatre society) for two years now. I was involved in last years musical, 'The Wedding Singer' and I am also a part of this year's, which is 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. I have met some amazing friends through Opsoc and every rehearsal is always great fun! We also have society events, such as pub quizzes and trips to the theatre, which bring us all together for some brilliant times.
Initially, i was a little nervous when i moved into accomodation, as it was my first time living away from home and I wasn't sure how well I'd get along with my flatmates. However, it did not take very long before I was settled in and making friends with every one of my flatmates and the flats next door. I also quickly learned how to cook and clean on my own and now I love living away from home! It's okay to be nervous and a little scared when you first move to university and a new city, but you'll soon find your feet and the university and city will become your home.
Just have fun, but remember deadlines and get the work handed in on time. I'd also recommend joining some societies or sports clubs, as they're great fun and a good way to meet new people who share the same interests as you. Above all, just be yourself and don't worry about trying to look cool. Not all students drink, so if you're not a drinker (like me), don't worry because no one will pressure you and you can have a good time however you like. University is a time to have fun and discover who you are and what you want to do later in life, so enjoy it and create many happy memories.
