Sarah Wyngard

Sarah Wyngard, from Durham, graduated with a degree in Adult Nursing in 2012.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee?

I chose to study at Dundee, as it looked to be the university that offered the most in all aspects, such as a fantastic campus and students' union plus it's so close to all the shops! With regards to the nursing course the information day was very informative and one of the best I had attended. Not only did I get to speak to some of the lecturers/students, but I also got involved in hands-on activities too.

What is the best thing about your course and why?

The best thing about my course is going on a placement. We get to put all of our clinical skills to use and can apply everything that we've been taught in our lectures. It's also great to go home at the end of the day knowing that by spending time with patients I may have improved their stay in hospital, made them feel better or even more comfortable.

What sports activities or clubs/societies are you involved with?

I have sampled a few of the sports clubs. A new society for ice skating is about to start up and I am hoping to become a member.

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

As I moved quite a long way from my hometown, Durham, I thought I would struggle with not knowing anyone. However this was not the case as the people you share halls of residence with, whether they are in your flat or your block, become your close friends.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Come with an open mind, ready to make new friends and make sure you go out in Freshers' Week so you can get to know people. Attend the freshers and sports fair to see what other things you can get involved with whilst at university. It's the time of your life, you are only a student once, so make the most of it!
