Ryan, who previously lived in Saudia Arabia, and Greenock, Scotland, graduated in 2005 with a BDes in Graphic Design.
I knew the city and University well as my older brother also studied at Dundee University. The reputation, facilities and staff at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) in particular impressed me when I visited for an open day while I was still in school.
I happily accepted the offer of a place on the General Course at Duncan of Jordanstone and went on to specialise in Graphic Design for my degree studies. The department has a proud recent history and regularly punches above its weight when it comes to picking up awards - a testament to the the quality of teaching and high standard of graduate which the course produces.
I moved to Glasgow after graduating where I worked as a designer for small web and branding agencies for four years before starting my own independent design & branding practice: www.rydo.co.uk
I continue to live and work in Glasgow for a wide range of clients from the arts, culture, music, leisure and entertainment industries.
The Graphic Design degree from Duncan of Jordanstone is one of the most highly respected in the UK - the skill I learned as an undergraduate continue to inform my working approach and philosophy to this day.
A close knit group of classmates on an excellent course with great staff which provided a real sense of team spirit and camaraderie. The friends I made as a student are some of my closest to this day.
Difficult to pinpoint one experience - the four years spent in Dundee were some of the most enjoyable I've had. I still have a great affection for the university and the city itself and try to visit as often as I can.
I did a summer work placement between third and fourth year for a design agency in Edinburgh.
If you choose to study in Dundee, you will be making a very good choice. Simple as that!
