Why did you choose to study at Dundee University?

I went to Dundee University to study Textiles as it had a great reputation for Printed and Constructed Textiles and it had been a long held ambition of mine to study at Dundee University. Coming to Dundee University as a mature student was the realisation of a plan to change my career and continue my education.

What are your immediate plans after graduation?

Initial plan to work in collaboration with fellow graduate to promote our design work.

What are your longer term career plans (if any)?

To develop and run my own Textile Design Business. This is realistically a five year plan but I now have the skills to make it a reality.

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

I think future applicants need to be aware that there is a strong element of design studies which are not primarily Textile related but encompass the much wider aspects of design issues. This aspect is both enlightening and thought provoking and should enhance your ability to survive in modern business. I would also recommend if possible to start with studing at Diploma level at college as this gave a great foundation to my university studies and a large reservoir of skills for my textile practice.

What was the most enjoyable thing about your degree and why?

I enjoyed the whole University course. The meeting and working with fellow students, the sharing of ideas and the stimulation of my mind as I tackled a completely different career path.

What was your best university experience and why?

The Degree Show was a huge celebration of all we had achieved and opening night was my best experience.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

To seize the oppertunities given and enjoy the course. It is a once-only opportunity so make the most of it.
