Naomi Hatch

Naomi Hatch, originally from Pretoria, South Africa, studied in Cheshire before coming to Dundee in 2007, and graduated 2011 in Forensic Anthropology.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee?

Having attended the open day at Dundee, I really loved the campus, the city centre and the halls. I thought everything was really modern, student orientated and close together.

What is the best thing about your course and why?

The best thing about my course is the lecturers, they are all current working forensic anthropologists that have first hand experience in the field. They are all well-known within the scientific community and it's amazing to think they are teaching me.

What information do applicants need to know before starting this course?

The Forensic Anthropology course is not easy and it may seem that it takes a while before you really get stuck into the osteology, however it feels amazing to have proved yourself for 2 years because the rewarding modules in 3rd and 4th year are worth the wait.

What has been your best learning experience to date and why?

The Gross Anatomy modules in 3rd year were amazing, and a once in a life time opportunity.

What has been your best university experience to date and why?

I think my best experience has been within the OPSOC society, performing musicals on campus every year. I've been lucky in that I've repeated this for three years and it was always great fun.

What sports activities or clubs/societies are you involved with?

I was a member of OPSOC (Musical Theatre Society) for 3 years, which was incredible fun. I was lucky enough to have a commitee role for 2 years, being vice publicity officer and treasurer.

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

It was really easy to settle into Dundee, the halls are on campus and the union is only a 2 minute walk away. The Freshers' Fayre in Welcome Week is really great, it introduces you to clubs/societies and other things like the local cinemas, and GP surgeries.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

If you haven't been to see the Dundee campus then I'd really recommend it. The best way to see if you'd be comfortable living in a city is to visit, and speak to the current students.
