Nadine Edinborough Edwards

Nadine studied via distance learning for the postgraduate certificate in Advancing Skills in Infection Prevention and Control.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee?

My mentor had studied via distance learning at Dundee and other Infection Prevention and Control (IP & C) clinical nurse specialists had graduated there. It also has a good reputation as a university.

What are your longer term career plans?

This course has provided me with a good theoretical grounding for me to build on and has enabled me to apply for appropriate jobs within my speciality.

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

That the University has very supportive and informative staff! They are encouraging and made me feel supported during every module.

I was very apprehensive at first, as I wasn't very computer literate and this was a totally different way for me to learn as I'd only been used to face to face teaching. But I found staff very supportive and only too happy to answer questions even when I felt like I was asking stupid ones!

What was the most enjoyable thing about your degree and why?

Forging good relationships with fellow colleagues in the virtual environment. Staff again were very supportive. The course was fast paced but it taught me to be strict with my time.

What was your best university experience and why?

The whole course was hard work but a great experience. When you find out that you have passed your last module it is the best feeling!

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Look at the discussion boards regularly and be strict with your time management so you dont get too bogged down. Experiment around the site so when you need to, i.e. lit search and submit assignments, you are not getting too stressed and are well prepared.
