Morgan Robb, who attended Kilmarnock Academy, is currently studying for her BAcc Accountancy degree. She hopes to graduate in 2013.
After attending the open day I knew Dundee was the university for me. Everything from the warm reception from staff and current students and having everything you need situated either on campus or very close by made me feel at ease and at home here from a very early stage.
The support you receive from the staff is brilliant. They are very welcoming and friendly and very approachable. Whether you are stuggling with something said in a lecture, a piece of coursework or you just fancy a chat over coffee with your advisor of studies they are always there to help and it was a great comfort to me to know they are there when I needed them.
Most importantly applicants need to realise that studying a BAcc degree is not all about number crunching. While the financial and management accounting modules are core to your degree, learning about the world of business, economics and law are equally important and for the most part enjoyable.
I was elected as Class Representative during my 1st year of study then School President in year 2. This gave me the opportunity to represent students' views and opinions in academic matters and liaise with DUSA and the School staff on important matters concerning all students - from small matters like tutorial rooms being too small to accommodate everyone to large University issues such as budget cuts.
As School President I also head the Accounting and Finance Society. We are the main point of contact between the staff and the students but also we are a social committee. We organise many social events for you to get to know your fellow classmates and those from the years 2,3 and 4, these events take the form of Pub Golf, the Annual Ball, pub quizzes and most importantly for potential appicants we hold a Freshers' Party to welcome the new students into the School.
It was very overwhelming at first but you soon realise that your fellow first years are all in the same boat as you and you soon start to feel at home on campus. DUSA puts on a fantastic Freshers' Week to help you to make new friends, familiarise yourself with campus, get involved with the Sports' Union and once the nervousness subsides it will be one of the best weeks of your time here at Dundee.
Really just enjoy yourself and try and keep everything in balance. As important as your academic career is, so is the social aspect of coming to university. With everything that that School and the University has to offer it would be silly not to take full advantage of it.
