Michelle Moroney

Michelle, from Coventry, is currently studying for a BSc in Neuroscience.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee?

The University of Dundee has always done well in the university tables, what interested me was its excellence in research throughout the Life Sciences department. When I visited on the open day, I knew this was the place for me, and with the best student union in Scotland you are guaranteed a good time at uni!

What is the best thing about your course and why?

I love the fact that you do get a lot of practical time for labs. The University has really modern equipment and you definitely get more involved in experiments. The Life Sciences department is brilliant, it has lecturers from all aspects that are really keen for you to learn! We also go on regular field trips - it's not all lectures and labs!

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

That you do have to manage your own time well - not leaving assignments until the day before they are due!

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

Dundee is a 7 hour journey from home, so I was really nervous about being so far away. Luckily everyone I've met so far is friendly, and you are all in the same boat. The accommodation is excellent.

What sports activities or clubs/societies (if any) are you involved with?

I'm involved in the bartending society, as well as many other volunteering groups!

What has been your best university experience to date and why?

I was pleased to find out my results from semester one! That was a good day! Also the union organised a car park headphone disco, which I would love to happen again!

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Get involved, really throw yourself into making new friends, going out during freshers' week, being keen to learn, it really makes a difference!
